Sunday Morning Coming Down

A few weeks ago I decided to do a bit of early morning photography so I headed out on a Sunday morning hoping to catch the sunrise on the shores of Belfast Lough. Unfortunately nothing much materialised due to thick cloud and I was unable to get an image. Undaunted I headed on into Belfast intending to do some Urban Landscapes around the waterfront area and hoping that the thick cloud and overcast lighting would suit some black and white images. I had just got the car parked and was heading down to the waterfront area, when suddenly the clouds parted and the sun lit up the entire area. For about 20 minutes I had some great light that enabled me to get some images of the Obel Tower, Belfast’s tallest building, reflected in the River Lagan.

Once the light had gone I started heading back to the car across the new Lagan Footbridge. Crossing the bridge I noticed the clouds starting to break and the low sun lit up another new building known as The Boat and the old Custom House on the other side of the river. I quickly set up again, waited for a few early morning cyclists to disappear, and grabbed a quick shot before the clouds closed in again. I just made it back to the car as the first few rain drops started to fall.
